Mental Health Support
The Health and Wellbeing team is here to offer support to students at the college who are experiencing mental health difficulties. Our aim is to support you to complete your studies and to achieve your goals.
How we will do this:
- We will meet with you to find out if any practical support is needed, or if any reasonable adjustments can be made to support you with your studies on your chosen course.
- We will agree an action plan with you which will outline any practical support or reasonable adjustments that might be needed in the classroom or with your coursework.
- We can contact and keep in touch with members of staff at the college, and if needed we can liaise with different agencies that might already be giving you support outside college i.e. GP, CPN, and Social Worker.
We can let tutors know if you need:
- time out of class
- additional support to learn in class
- work to be sent home if you have to take time out from college, or you are not able to come in to college
- support you to manage course work, exams and presentations
- We can also tell you about, and refer you to, other support services at the college, i.e. Achievement Coach, finance advice, Careers Advice and Guidance, Counselling Service, Student Health and Wellbeing and Student Union.
This will help you to:
- feel more prepared and confident to manage your studies
- feel better informed about the support available to you at the college
- develop clear targets and know what your next steps are to complete your studies and achieve your goals.
What to expect:
We will treat you with respect, listen to you and will work with you to try to find solutions to any difficulties you may be having.
- We will work with you and other college staff to put reasonable adjustments in place that will support you with your studies.
- We will explain to you how we are going to put any support in place and will explain to you who we need to contact, and what information may need to be shared.
- We will explain to you about confidentiality and information sharing so that you understand and are able to make informed choices about what information is shared and with whom.
- We will keep in regular contact with you, and we will meet with you to agree an action plan, and then arrange to meet with you or have contact with you to find out how you are getting on.
- What this means for you, is that you will have a named person who you can contact if you are having any difficulties while you are studying at college.
