As a student of The City of Liverpool College, you can access free counselling while you are in college. Fully qualified counsellors are on hand to give you the opportunity to talk about or explore something in confidence that could be causing you difficulty.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk about or explore something in confidence (whether work or personal).

Sometimes you may be looking for a solution to a problem; other times there may be no answers, but it can still help to talk things over. Counselling is not someone telling you what to do. It is about valuing your own capacity to make choices and changes.

It’s always easier to talk about difficulties sooner rather than later, before things get worse. Difficulties can be about anything at all, e.g. relationships, bullying, anxiety, stress, grief, bereavement.

No problem is too big or too small

Additional Information

Is it the right thing for me?

If you chose to make contact with the Counselling Service, an initial appointment will be made.  This will be a time for getting some clarity about what you want to change, information gathering and answering any questions you may have.  Together with the counsellor you will decide if counselling is appropriate and how the service will be able to meet your needs.  Many people find this helpful in itself and decide not to start a counselling arrangement.  Sometimes your needs may be better met by an external source and a referral will be suggested.

Would I benefit from talking to a counsellor?

If you choose to begin counselling it is important that you feel safe and comfortable with the counselling relationship. Please discuss any concerns with your counsellor first. Another counsellor may be better for you, and this can be arranged.
