NEW COURSE for careers in the great outdoors
The City of Liverpool College has created a brand new course that combines love of the great outdoors with the skills needed to become an accomplished outdoor professional.
The Level 2 Outdoor and Adventurous Activity Diploma will deliver a range of educational skills that are essential for careers in outdoor pursuits, including sports leadership, team working, sports and activities planning, as well as an introduction to sports massage and healthy exercise and nutrition. The course also has a high practical content with at least one day per week dedicated to outdoor sports such as canoeing, mountain biking, orienteering and rock climbing.
The course was created to meet demand for workers in the growth sectors of sport and outdoor pursuits. These industries provide a variety of career opportunities that range from outdoor activity instructor, sports physiotherapist, the Armed Forces, adventure training, management and leadership roles and a range of oversees jobs, including ski or water sports instructor.
Steven Kelly, the course tutor who developed the course, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone seeking to gain hands-on experience as well as extra qualifications in both water and land-based activities. Students will gain valuable insights into their chosen field through work experience and will also learn specific skills geared to enhance their potential with any future job opportunities.”
Successful completion of the course offers students access to advanced level training at the college, including Outdoor and Adventurous Activity, Sports, and Sports Massage courses that will further develop the skills needed to move on to degree level courses at the college or university, or into employment.
