College awarded GOLD for HE programmes in first TEF ratings
The City of Liverpool College has announced today that it has been awarded the Government’s highest accolade under a new scheme that governs standards of education in British institutions delivering programmes in higher education.
Under the Department for Education’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the college was awarded GOLD for delivering consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for students on its Higher Education programmes. This is the highest mark of quality awarded for education found in the United Kingdom.
The original assessment scheme saw institutions of higher education ranked in the three categories of ‘meets expectations’, ‘excellent’ and ‘outstanding’. The new ranking now awards the grades of ‘bronze’, ‘silver’ and ‘gold’, which are based on a range of factors including graduate employability and student satisfaction.
A total of 295 universities, colleges and alternative HE providers volunteered to take part in the first TEF survey and 134 were rated, of which 43 were gold, 67 silver and 24 bronze.
Elaine Bowker, Principal of The City of Liverpool College, said: “Our ranking in the TEF list puts our HE provision higher than some of the most prestigious institutions in the country.
“The college’s HE provision is the gold standard in Britain and we deliver the highest quality of teaching and a learning experience unmatched by most of the colleges and universities who took part in the TEF survey.
“Our graduate employment rates and links with employers mean our students are able to find work and receive work-based learning that supports the economy and our students and graduates enjoy learning here.
“We are immensely proud of the award we have been given and is a testament to the hard work and commitment the college’s teachers and students have to learning and providing the highest standard of education in Liverpool.”
The Department for Education, which has taken over responsibility for administering the framework, said the ratings are available for students applying to start a higher education programme in Autumn 2018.
