Former student offered deal of a lifetime in America
A former City of Liverpool College student has been offered the chance of a lifetime, to take part in an American music event for one of Liverpool’s famous exports.
22 year-old singer-songwriter, Cal Ruddy, was approached by a US music promotions company to be the ambassador for Liverpool at the San Diego Beatles Fair, and take part in a tour of the pacific coast, which takes in the cities of Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Palm Springs.
Cal, who studied on the college’s Rockschool Diploma course last year, suffers from bouts of anxiety and depression. In order to take part in the event, he needs to raise funds to cover flights, accommodation and transport costs.
Cal’s mum, Paula Ruddy, said: “For Cal to benefit from this amazing opportunity, we need to raise £5,000, which is a challenge, but one we’re facing head on. We’re doing as much as possible to fundraise and have also set up a Go Fund Me page which raised £500 on the first day alone! We also want to raise awareness that young people with disabilities can still have hope and be successful.”
Cal said: “Music is a healer – it can cure anything and has made me realise that anything is possible. I’m not ashamed of where I’ve come from – I’m extremely proud and thankful.”
