Student Involvement Day
All students in Hair & Beauty, Travel & Tourism, Hospitality & Catering, Sport and Public Services took part in a student involvement day recently to find out more about employment opportunities available to them in the future.
The events, which were held in the Learning Exchange and Duke Street, offered students an opportunity to meet a range of employers from various sectors to ask questions about their future employment prospects.
Students took part in a variety of activities including a range of interview workshops where students could test their technique in a formal interview setting, as well as several industry skills demonstrations designed to inspire students to develop their creative talents. Organisations involved in making the day a success included the Titanic Hotel, Russell and Browns Vintage Hair and Dermalogica.
Students also had the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers who shared their experiences from the sporting world, including International Commonwealth Games Weightlifter, Stephanie Owens, and former Liverpool and Tranmere footballer, Jason McAteer.
Chris Smith, Assistant Principal for Service Industries said: “The Involvement Day allows a range of employers to speak to the students about their experiences and the specific skills required to succeed in industry. The students are key to the future success of this great City and working so closely with a fantastic range of employers allows them to finely tune their skills, in order to play a full and valued part in the future developments in their chosen employment.”
18 year old Harry Hampton, studying for a level 3 Diploma in Sport said: “I found the whole day so inspiring, listening to world class athletes and accomplished professionals in the field of sport. I know now that if I focus on my studies and work hard I too can have a fantastic career like theirs.”
Cameron Sampson, studying on the Public Services level 2 course, added: “The day was really good, I am now volunteering at Fire Fit and for Operation Pathfinder in the summer. It was a great opportunity for me to gain more experience.”
