Heptathlete Kat in print debut
Rising star of the British athletics team – and former student of The City of Liverpool College, Katarina Johnson-Thompson – is the latest athlete to join the line-up of Metro’s guest columnists, featured in the national tabloid during the run up to the Commonwealth Games in Scotland this July.
Katarina, 21, is a multi-eventer but also excels in individual competitive long jump and high jump events. She completed a level 3 Diploma in Sport at the college in 2012, the same year she burst onto the scene at the Olympic Games in London, where she finished a respectable fifteenth in the heptathlon. Since then, Johnson-Thompson has gone from strength to strength, taking silver in her first senior level long jump event at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in March. Katarina is aiming for further success in Gotzis – recognised as the number one global heptathlon event outside the Olympics – at end of May, followed by the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Europeans in August.
Johnson-Thompson is tipped to go for Olympic Gold in Rio in 2016.
