College student is Apprentice of the Year 2013
18 year old student Mikey Durgan was named Apprentice of the Year recently at this year’s prestigious LiverCool Awards.
Mikey received the award from Liverpool Down Town in Business in front of leading employers from across the region. The City of Liverpool College apprentice is studying on a creative digital apprenticeship and is employed with MSP Global, a market-leader for audio-visual equipment, staging and production services working across the UK and internationally.
In his relatively short career, Mikey has helped to stage some of the most high profile events in the country and is carving out an impressive career as a skilled creative lighting technician. He has played a vital role in staging major events that include awards ceremonies in London and a Strictly Come Dancing style charity event at St Georges Hall.
Employers Lisa Richards and Colin Reader said: “We are passionate about supporting apprentices and have worked with the College to open up opportunities to young people. Our warmest congratulations go out to Mikey on this well deserved award. We are delighted to have him with us; he is such as asset to our company. We are really impressed with the way he juggles a demanding apprenticeship course with working long hours on special events. He is hungry to learn, is conscientious, honest and keeps a level head, crucial when you are working as part of a team on live shows.”
Apprenticeships are forecast to contribute £3.4bn to the economy by 2022, according to a recent report from the Centre of Economics and Business Research.
